Perched precariously on the rugged northern cliffs of Ibiza near Port de San Miguel, Hacienda Na Ximena was conceived in the late 1960s by Catalan architect Daniel Lipszyc. Long before the island became synonymous with mega-clubs, Lipszyc sought to build an enclave completely attuned to the natural contours of the rock face.

Structural Engineering on a Precipice

The standout achievement of Na Ximena is its outdoor thalassotherapy installation, known officially as Las Cascadas Suspendidas. Anchored into the limestone cliff with deep reinforced piles, eight interconnected semicircular lagoons spill over into one another down the hillside.

Each tier is fed with seawater warmed to varying temperatures (ranging from 34°C to 38°C). Guests move systematically through the circuit over approximately 45 to 50 minutes, experiencing calibrated water jets targeting the calves, lumbar region, shoulders, and scalp. The experience is accompanied by the scent of maritime pine and the dramatic sound of breakers crashing far below.

The Main Pool vs. The Cascades

In addition to the Cascadas Suspendidas spa circuit, the resort features a central swimming pool lined with dark slate stone. This pool reflects the changing hues of the Balearic sky and offers unobstructed westerly exposure, making it an exceptional vantage point for observing the Mediterranean sunset without the commercial fanfare of Ibiza's southern resorts.

Key Advantages

  • Breathtaking 180-meter vertical cliff perspective unmatched across the Balearics.
  • Therapeutic multi-stage jet circuit using natural warmed seawater.
  • Total tranquility insulated from the party corridor of southern Ibiza.
  • Stunning front-row sunset exposure every evening during the warmer months.

Considerations

  • Access to the Cascadas Suspendidas requires advance time-slot booking even for hotel guests.
  • Steep cliffside terrain and stepped architecture may present mobility difficulties.
  • Remote northern location necessitates a rental car for island exploration.

Environmental Integration & Visual Ethics

Unlike modern high-gloss infinity pools that rely on sharp-edged white composite and perimeter acrylic walls, Na Ximena utilized local stone and earthy ochre stucco. As a result, the entire complex blends organically with the scrub-covered cliffside when viewed from boats navigating the waters below.

Curator Recommendation

We recommend booking an afternoon circuit in the Cascadas Suspendidas approximately one hour before nautical twilight. This timing allows the therapeutic water progression to culminate just as the sun disappears behind the horizon line, bathing the surrounding cliffs in deep amber and violet tones.
